Which is normally the bigger the male or female?

We are getting two boston terriers and was wondering which are bigger, and also if they are a very hyper dog? I have done so much research but would like to ask someone personally.

thank you

Male & Female Bostons
by: Kathleen

Personally, I don't consider them "hyper", but they are very active and need lots of attention and exercise. Our male & female are nearly the same weight, but the male is stockier in build, and our female is more "refined" - a bit longer and leaner.

If you decide on a BT, let us know and share some pics!

Size & Hyper Activity
by: Anonymous

Your question can have many different answers.

First, I'm assuming both are from the same litter. If they are, you probably won't see any difference in size- - -UNLESS- - -one is a runt. Keep in mind that if they are from a good breeder, you probaly won't get a runt. I don't think you will see size difference based one one being female and one male.

Second, there are basically three sizes of Bostons. My experience is that the smaller group tends to be more hyper. You will see that when they are very young and you can deal with it starting by training as soon as it is apparent. You will be so happy watching their hyper activity that you, like a lot of Boston owners, will wait too long to correct them. A warning: hyperness includes chewing. If you don't want your furniture chewed on, keep raw-hide bones available 24-7. Also keep plenty of toys around, especially squeaky kinds. And play with them with them. I control my small Boston by putting my hand on the back of his neck and saying shhh shhh until he settles down. It works great because I started doing that when he was very small. I never had that problem with the other Boston that is a middle sized one.

I warn you- - - they are so darn cute, you will enjoy their bad behavior too, but you must make them know you are the boss.

It is very smart to have two Bostons, not just one. They demand a lot of playing time. They will play with each other and give you a rest if you want one.

No matter what happens, I am willing to bet that you will never be angery at them- - and if they learn that, they will boss you.

Another little trick is to talk to them a lot. They have an amazing ability to remember your intentions by the tone of your voice.

Good Luck with them and make sure you post a picture for all of us to see.
