when do i breed my boston terrier?

I have a 9 month old Boston Terrier puppy and she should be starting her first heat here pretty soon. At what point is it ok to breed her? I have heard that I am suppose to wait until her 2nd or 3rd heat, is that right?

You should never breed a dog on their first heat. It would be like sending a 12-13 yo girl out to get pregnant. As for the comment about them being self-centered, my sister's boston had her only litter well into her adult years, and was very loving even after they were weaned. In fact, she would act out when we separated them from her because of her over-mothering.

Breeding early or not

i have been told you should do it as soon as possible because they can become self centered, which would lead to not taking care of the pupps and thinking its all about them. Which can kill the pups. Not sure if this is true... gots me worried. i was going to wait till she was 1 1/2yrs old before i start

You are correct about waiting till the 2nd or 3rd heat. It is best to wait until the female is 1 1/2 to 2 years old because then they are fully developed and their system can withstand the stress of puppy-bearing. It is quite a drain on the female and you sure don't want to start off with an underdeveloped puppy. Wait until she is finished growing and you will begin with a strong start.
