Weight Loss & Vomiting - 10 year old Boston Terrier

My 10 year old Oreo has not been well for about 3 months and we cannot figure out what is happening, so I thought I would tap into everyone's expertise on this list.

Since late May Oreo has been vomiting foamy bile and losing weight (4.5 lbs since May - about 14% of his body weight). He does not seem to be in any pain or discomfort, he plays at the park, had a blast at the cottage, great appetite (eating like a little piggy) and pooping normally. He is on medication to help settle his tummy and he doesn't throw up his food, just bile (and not a lot - just a bit each time).

His full senior blood workup from July 28th was better than the bloodwork done in April prior to this problem. An ultrasound showed that he had no abnormalities in his abdomen, however he still had a bit of food in his tummy that should have moved on to his intestines, so now he is on meds to help the food motility.

We are at a loss and willing to research and do whatever it takes to ensure he is healthy. Poor guy is probably wondering what all the fuss is about, but the symptoms are not normal and we are very concerned.

My Bella

Bella had a vomiting problem for about 2 mths before the bet figured out she had a blockage. At first she was vomiting every now and then... then it became a regular daily thing every time she ate. We went to the vet what seemed like a million times... we changed her diet etc but nothing helped. She lost so much weight I couldn't take it anymore and I went back to the vet and they did an X-ray. They couldn't really tell but the vet said he wanted to do surgery to check her entire intestine. It was a super hard decision but we decided to try it. He found a plastic piece that was not identifiable but removing it saved her life! Not saying you are having the same issue but make sure they look at the X-rays carefully. Hope your baby feels better soon!

I have read that when a dogs stomach is empty for a longer period of time (example, from night time to morning before they eat), they will vomit the yellow bile. I have a 14 yr old dog that has done it and a 4 mos old Boston that has also done it. The acid builds up in their tummies and they simply vomit it. To solve the problem, as soon as I get up in the morning, (before my coffee), I give both my dogs a treat to put something in their tummies.. and they are fed at the same time every day, if at all possible. Hope this helps!! We also switched the 14 yr old food to a special formula for easier digestion for seniors.

vomiting
by: Linda Galway/TurnerME

My Scarlett occasionally vomits a bit of yellow foamy material, no food. The only common denominator I can find is it is usually after she has been very excited... then again, not EVERY time. I have no clue what brings this on. Hope you find an answer.
