Prednisone WARNING!!!

Prednisone WARNING!!!

Prednisone WARNING!!! 2 Weeks ago

Up till about a week ago Princess had bright sparkly eyes and was a happy pup. She got a small scratch on her eye and now her eye is swollen and infected and she might lose her eye. The vet didn't tell me that when they are on the Prednisone that it weakens the immune system and makes them prone to infections. Her eye swelled out in a matter of a couple of hours and looked like it was going to pop right from the socket. The first vet didn't treat her properly and the second vet (Banfield Animal Hosp.)says she needs to be seen by a specialist. We have spent so much money on these vets that now we don't have money for the specialist. And of course the specialist won't see her without getting his money, NO MATTER WHAT the emergency is. I wish I would have never given her the Prednisone.

I am so sorry about your little BT. She looks like she is in so much pain. As soon as surgery is done I hope she will be better. All BTs are so beautiful and loving it hurts us more than it hurts them when they get hurt. When a vet doesn't tell you everything like with the prednisone this is rediculous. Thanks for letting us know this and I hope your little baby gets well and feels better very soon.

For those of you who wanted to know, we just got back from taking Princess to Tulsa to the eye specialist. He said he can not save her eye. He said that when it ruptured, it was too late. If we could have gotten her there sooner that he could have saved it. I really want to wring some necks right now. He says she is permanently blind in her left eye now.

How sad for your beautiful BT. I've never heard of this, but thanks for the warning. I hope everything turns out OK. Perhaps you could send the "specialist" a copy of this photo and ask if he would make an exception and let you pay over time.

Please take it from me - find somehow to get your dog to the specialist. It must be in terrible pain. We have a Toy Fox Terrier that developed lens luxation (genetic) and I know how expensive the specialist is. What I did not know was how much pain my dog was in. He lost one eye and is blind in the other, which looks like a blue marble. But he is no longer in pain. Perhaps the specialist has a payment plan that you can apply for. Most do and it is low interest. I am SO VERY SORRY about this for you and your dog. Thinking of both of you.
