Unusual Weight for Boston?

How unusual is it for our pure bred Boston to weigh 36.7 pounds? The vet verifies that he is not overweight.

43 pound Spike!
by: Anonymous

Spike is a 12-year-old Boston terrier he's not fat by any means, his length from nose to tail is 28 inches. His chest is 27 inches. His waist is 23 inches. His height at the hindlegs it's 19 inches. Boston bulldogs rule, I'd like to see a 50 pounder.

32 Pounds n Counting
by: Mike n Anah

Our pure breed male BT 'Sam' is 32 lbs @ 11 mo and still growing! Thanks to all for the great comments and sanity check. It's pretty obvious that he's got some of the original bulldog genes. His size was not expected, but his personality is everything we researched. Love him!

Max the Mutant
by: Patty

I can relate to the bigger boston...Max is 4 years old and weighs about 45 lbs. I too hear all the time "thats the biggest boston I have ever seen". He was the biggest pup of the litter. He is all boston though...we call him the mutant. love him to death!

I posted a couple of years ago that my Boston weighed 42 pounds at 10 months. Now, at 3-years-old, he weighs 54 pounds. He is muscle-y and stocky...not really fat...but could probably stand to lose a few pounds. He was a tall, stocky puppy when we got him. His body shape is exactly like Barnard's Tom in the attached link, but his head and coloring look like a traditional Boston.

I would say your Boston has genes from the original Bostons, which were called Boston Bulldogges. I'm sure your vet would say something to you if he were alarmed about his weight. You may have just gotten a bigger Boston like several of us have on this hub. Every square inch is pure personality, and I wouldn't trade mine for anything!

releived to hear there's big boston's,but worried!
by: Kevin

I have a 6 1/2 month old boston and I just weighed him and he was a hefty 37lbs, I was shocked! I have only seen small boston's everywhere so i'm very concerned about his weight considering he's only 6 1/2 months old! We
hen we got him we did some research and it said they grow to a max weight of 25lbs so we thought it was the perfect size dog for our new home. but I'm very worried that this might have some health concerns for him! we just had him nutered a month and a half ago and he was 25lbs than, now he's 12lbs more, anybody know anything about this or should I contact his vet?

I am glad to hear of your Boston's size. Wrigley turned 2 on July 19, and he now weighs 49 pounds! I get so tired of hearing, "That's the biggest Boston I've ever seen!" lol I always answer that he's 49 pounds of pure personality.

Lady is 45lbs.
by: Anonymous

My baby girl, Lady is five years old and weighs a whopping 45lbs. She has always been a stocky and very muscular girl; but, She is a little heavier at the moment because it has been way too hot outside for her to run around and play with our German Shepard and cats. We've cut back on her food a little bit but she gives us those sad eyes and little pout and we cave and give her a little more.

My new Bossy is 34 lbs!
by: Mary P.

I am so glad to read that other people have really large Boston Terriers. We adopted one this week. He is papered and does not seem to be fat at all! He is almost 3 years old and is 34 lbs. I have had Boston Terriers before and they all ranged from 12 lbs to 18 lbs. I have NEVER seen one this big. We love him and call him Bruin. =)

Boston Terrier 35lbs
by: Anonymous

Oscar, is a 7 year old Boston. He is now 35 pounds and I think that's it just too much for him. He was always a Big Boston but not fat. He eats diet low fat food and treats. In the summer he looks great at aroung 28 lbs. But now that the nights arrive early we just don't walk him much during the week.

I know that he won't be pleased with us but it's time to reduce the portings.

35lbs
by: Jason B

My boston we named "Thor" had a tall lean mother about 20lbs and a short stocky father.

So he turned out tall and stocky... 35lbs healthy... He's 8 years old now.

Boston Size
by: Anonymous

My purebred Boston, Wrigley, weighs 42 pounds at 10 months old! He was a big puppy when we got him at 9 weeks, and he has grown and grown and grown! I've read that the bigger Bostons are descendants of the "original" Bostons, which were bigger dogs. Wrigley also has several brindle stripes that developed as he grew. I've also read that is a trait of the original Bostons.

Big Babies
by: Mary

I am sure you know the history of the Boston Terrier and that they have descended from the cross of an English Bulldog and the extinct White Terrier. Those English Bulldogs were very heavy!

I have heard of some Bostons being 8 pounds! So it looks like there are big ones and little ones!
