Two Boston Terriers?

by Myrtle's Mommy
(IL)

My husband and I have a 2 year old Boston Terrier that we adopted a year ago. We LOVE her (her name is Myrtle) and spoil her rotten! She's home alone most of the day and we have been told that Bostons like the company of other Bostons, so we are contemplating getting another dog to keep her company (and because we love Bostons). Since we didn't raise Myrtle from a puppy I am scared of playing favoritisms (or her getting jealous) with the new puppy. We LOVE our dog but are wondering what to do.

Are 2 better than 1?

Another Boston is usually the best thing you can get for your Boston. Just make sure you watch them closely at first. It may take time for them to get used to each other. If your current Boston likes other dogs and the new puppy likes other dogs it should be an easy and fast adjustment. If either one does not like other dogs, you can still get them used to each other but it will take some time on your part. You are the leader of the "pack" and what you say goes...they will learn that soon. You may consider crate training the new puppy for his/her protection while you are out of the house. Also, try to find a breeder that has "socialized" her puppies with other dogs/people/even cats. A socialized puppy will adjust faster.

We have 3 Bostons. The 2nd one (male) was a new puppy when the first one (female) was 1 years old. They had no issues at all but we did watch them closely at first. The third one (female) was a puppy while the 2nd one was 1 and the 1st one was 2 years old. The 3rd one loved other dogs and they played right away with no problems although I watched them closely for about 2 weeks. Now they are all best friends and play and play and play together. I hardly have to throw a ball, but they still come sit in our laps and "chill" a lot.
