You see sites that say they breed Tea Cup Bostons, but are there really tea cup Boston Terriers? Yes & No? According to AKC, Bostons do come in several sizes with UNDER 15 lbs being recognized as a show TYPE! However there are TRULY TINY (MINI) Bostons puppy's that are born from full sized Bostons. These are referred to as Miniature or Petite, AKA RUNTS. Typically they will be under 12 lbs as adults although we have had under 9 lbs..
Many AKC BOSTONS that are under the 15 lbs recognized TYPE as full grown adults AKC does not indicate any Recognized TEA CUP TYPE of Boston Terrier at this time. So, yes, there is TRULY TINY Boston Terriers BUT no they are NOT considered TEA CUP. It would be a personal preference to call them TEA CUP. Breeding the tiny Boston is a whole different story. It took us years of selective breeding to exceptionally small, well defined, true to breed standards, before we produced a consistently Miniature sized Boston Terrier litter - 10 years to be exact. And, not without disappointments and the potential health issues Bostons have as full sized dogs. Lots of planning and health screenings went into this project. We now have Miniature Bostons that we are quite proud of at under 15lbs for males and 12 lbs for females. It's been quite an adventure. Our average puppy weighs less than 2 lbs at 2 months.
