Nena sitting waiting for a treat!

Nena sitting waiting for a treat!

I taught my dog Nena to sit that was easy. Now I'm trying to teach her to lay, I hope you or someone can give me advice on how to do it. Then other things too. She does stay when I tell her to sit, but when were outside she acts like I never taught her to sit either. If anyone walks up to her she jumps on you to no end and I know she's a puppy (just turned 3 months, but I want her to learn when I say no down. Plz Anyone help if you can.

Don't give up

Your Boston has the most precious little face.

The thing I have to remind myself of the most is to have lots of repetition and tons of patience.

Somewhere along about 6 to 9 months, when you are beginning to think trying to train your dog is hopeless and futile, a little light bulb lights up in their brains and everything starts to fall in place.

You know your dog, play on whatever captures his attention and likes and go from there. For the most part dogs are like children, no two are alike or respond the same way.

Remember patience and lots of repetition.

laying down
by: Jenai

What we did was get him to sit. Then showed him a treat in our hand and put it close to his face, without letting him take it but just so he could smell it. Then I lowered it down and he would follow it and I would put in all the way down. Sometimes this would take a few tries as he wouldn't lay down but just lower his head. When he laid down I would put it in between his paws while saying "lay down, good boy" and when he stayed like that for a few seconds he could have the treat. This technique had him trained to lay down without a treat after two days.
Be careful not to let the lesson go on for too long as their attention spans are terrible.
Good luck!

Training for Nena

What a precious baby! In answer to your question regarding the jumping up on people - I always raise my knee up and very gently push the animal back saying in a somewhat loud and commanding voice - "BAD DOG" - DOWN!!!

Again, make sure you are very gentle, but push the dog with enough force to push it away from whomever it's jumping up on. Don't be alarmed if the dog sometimes loses his balance and rolls over.

Anytime my dogs are not behaving, I always use the "BAD DOG, NO" followed by whatever I want stopped in a somewhat loud and gruff voice.

On the other hand, if they do something good, I always praise them with "GOOD DOG" in a happy voice.

Hope some of this works with your pup.

Try getting some training treats and basically cut them into nothing. Hold a treat up to her nose then tell her down and help her the first few times because she wont know what to do. Eventually she will get it. As for outside just keep working at it this happens outside because she is a puppy and gets distracted very easily.. mine is finally listening outside and will come when called.
