training a 6 yr old

Hi,
I recently saved a 6 yr old Boston from a lady in Kentucky. I don't know if it was a puppy mill or not but I believe she was at one at one point. Here is my question. She is very very skittish and doesn't act like a dog at all. I believe she was just bred to the point of no return. Is there a way I can "snap" her out of it. She is very sweet I just feel like she is afraid all the time.

She runs away from you and doesn't really interact. Is there any way to try to get her to start trusting people again? Or do you think she will always be like this?

My Lily was abused. Not physically, but by being kept in a crate with another BT and rarely let out.

She took to my wife instantly and never leaves her side, but was skittish with everyone else.

It just took time. She is finally warming up to me and will finally come to me when I call her. She used to run and cower behind my wife.

What you may need to do is find out who in your family to seems to trust the most and let that person work with her. Maybe hold her while you pet her to help her gain your trust.

It's a real shame when people treat their dogs this way. Good luck with her and be patient. BT's are by far the best pets.

I'll be watching this post to see your progress. Please keep me informed.

I have the same deal with mine and we just got her..I think she was abused. We were out one night and a guy in a white van was hollering out asking if someone wanted it. I took one look at the poor thing and it was a no brainer to get her out of this morons hands...but she is skittish and seems scared or terrified at times...she is very loving though but get scared over nothing..I am hoping she snaps out of it and get her tail up a little :)

trying to get her potty trained is hard..and being 2 degrees outside dont help....

good luck with yours...i know i can relate
