A number of reasons not to breed. (1) Bostons, with their tighter nasal passages, often must be delivered C-section to avoid losing the pups. This increases complications and heightens risk during delivery. (2)Economics -- many people in today's economically challenging times, cannot afford to maintain the dog(s) they have, nor pay for new ones. If you're doing it for the money, it's not a good reason to breed. (3) Population control. There are so many unwanted dogs in the US today -- over 5 million get euthanized in shelters a year. What bring more dogs into the world when so many need good homes? (4) There are expert breeders who raise puppies as a profession. I am a big proponent of letting them do their job and our job is loving the little cherubs and treasures we receive from their efforts.
