Thinking of Getting a Boston

by Chris
(Washington DC)

I want a Boston, they are such comedians!! Great dogs...

I am renting an apt. Are Boston's destructive with apartments, say chewing molding/furniture, or is it mostly small inanimate squeaky toys? Wondering if they chew like labs do.

Boston's grow out of it..
by: Anonymous

My three chewed up things left on the floor. They ate EVERYTHING that was small enough, so just keep small objects (esp. my eye glasses) off the floor. Also, make sure to keep the bathroom door closed. I came home one day and my new puppy got a hold of the toilet paper roll and ripped it into mini pieces!! It looked like it had snowed!!! As for large objects, like furniture, I've had 3 Boston's and they never chewed that. But, if yours did, you could simply purchase some apple bitter spray from the pet store and that would end that! On the plus side, it made me keep my house clean!! They grow out of it in the first year and they are not like large breeds, who are in the 'puppy stage' for about two years. They are so comical, even when they do bad things. They are worth every mishap!!

Boston Terrier Chewing
by: Kathleen

Hi Chris -

Bostons typically do love to chew. Mine aren't too destructive now that they're a bit older, but when they were puppies, I did lose a wooden drawer pull, and the corners of two different upholstered chairs.

As long as we keep them supplied with nylabones and kongs now, they're pretty good. We do have to keep shoes out of sight, too. ;-)
