Seizures and HGE

I have a very sweet 3 year old BT mix that I rescued 30 days ago. She has had 3 seizures, an ear infection and now HGE(hemorrhagic gastroenteritis). We've been to the vet 5 times and the animal ER hospital twice.
Are BT's usually so fragile. I'm very discouraged as I had been wanting a Boston for the longest time and was told by the rescue group she was healthy. I'm fairly knowledgable about seizures but had never heard of HGE. Anyone have any experience with this?

I would say on the overall picture that Bostons are not that tender in their health. We have 3 Bostons at the ages of 4, 3, and 2. None of them have anything serious. One has had the knee surgery in one leg when she was about 9 months old. If you are looking for a Boston in good health you actually did the almost best thing...getting an older dog. You can usually get the history and tell what kind of behavior they have etc... Puppies, even from the best of breeders, can always turn out a little different than expected. My friend purchased an AKC with champion bloodlines and he turned out to be sterile. It's best if you can look in their past family history to make sure it is clear of certain diseases that are hereditary but all breeds have their particular problems. I am guessing that the rescue probably didn't know too much about the family history of your baby but even if they did, things like this do come up. Health insurance is always a good idea. The only other way of obtaining a Boston in good health is to purchase a "retired" dog from a very well known breeder who shows her dogs. The health on that dog will be very well documented as will the personality and such. I guess the only drawback is that you will not have as many years as a brand new puppy...but you won't have to potty train it either.
