scared of everything

I have a 9 month old Bo-Shih i got her from a rescue at 8 weeks old. I love her very much and she goes everywhere with me but she is afraid of alot. When people go to pet her or one of my kids do she quivers and lays down. I didnt think it was a big problem till the dog trainer said "she acts like shes been beat" i was offended cause we have never beat her shes treated like another one of our kids. Any advice to help her with this?

Boston Terrier's MO

I have an eight year old Boston Terrier that does all this shiver, shaking and quaking; we have never whipped him nor has anyone else. Matter of fact he is spoiled rotten and I would kill anyone who laid an unkind hand on my baby. MY sister's BT does this shaking also, I think it is just part of their make up. They are nervous little dogs.
