Rocky is my first Boston. My question is do his ears become upright on there own at a certain age?Or do you have to pay to get them cropped like Boxers and Pitbulls?
I have 2 BT's. When the first one (male) was about 4 - 4 1/2 months old I started to panic that his ears wouldn't straighten up. I couldn't find the exact medical tape on the other websites. I tried a similar kind in the same brand but it wouldn't stay on. I had these facial pads called Frownies. You can find them at Frownies.com and they are the ones for the forehead and between the eyebrows. You just spray them with water and they stick and fit perfectly! My puppy's ears were standing up straight in a couple of days. That could have been a coincidence - maybe they were almost ready to stand? All I know is if the tape would have worked, this was even better.
The second dog (female) had ears that stood straight up from day one, so I couldn't test it again.
For the record, I did think the Frownies worked on the lines as well, I just got tired of using them.

Ears standing on thier own by: Brescia
Our 7 month old BT's ears just stood up in the last week. He is exactly 7 months old today 10/22/09. We were wondering when or if that would happen also, and it did all of a sudden.
We had a BT before Clancy (7 month old). That BT's ears stood up sooner. I don't remember waiting for it to happen with the first BT. I guess it depends on the dog and genetics.

Although some Boston ears are cropped, mostly for the show ring, I presume, they are supposed to go upright on their own at some point... I had one Boston whose ears were temperamental; some days they were upright, some days they flopped a little in either direction! My second Boston had perfect ears from the moment we picked him up at 7-1/2 weeks, and our rescue Boston has upright ears, but they turn slightly back at the peak. Also, some ears are more pointed, and some are more rounded. Just pick up any book on Bostons and you'll see a wide variety of ear styles. I think some breeders/handlers/owners might use a moleskin-type product to put inside the ears to help them stay vertical, but I wouldn't both if you're not showing the dog. Their ears are part of their charm.
