Beau after puppy playtime w/ 4 BT's

Hello everyone. I have a 3 mo old boy and have had him for a month. He's fantastic, smart and loyal. The only thing I'm concerned about is his random yelping. He's been doing it on/off since I’ve had him and finally think to ask some experts (my vet said at beginning some do that when sleeping hard). Anyway, when he was first home he'd eat super fast, bloat and when we'd pick him he'd yelp. Figured this to be gas pressure and fixed the eating situation and this has stopped.

He yelps, just once, not a bark, just walking around, sleeping, waking up, etc. It sounds like he's hurt but it doesn't affect him; he keeps on whatever he's doing without jumping or being spooked. It’s always so unexpected.

I've tried to recreate it and can't. I can touch him all over w/o a yelp. He doesn't try to get at his ears, doesn't do butt races on the floor, nothing. He's active, eats fine, sleeps normal, plays. A friend has his brother and we get them together at least once a week for puppy play time and they romp around fine. Last night they played and he yelped more than ever before when it was time to go to bed. He’d yelp adjusting himself, or when we’d move him, or wake him up. This morning, only yelped once but has been stretching far more than normal.

I’m hoping someone can share an experience to let me know I’m just being paranoid (I’ve never owned a puppy, I’ve always rescued and fixed older dogs-lol). I hope its strained muscles from playing too hard, new experiences and it’ll be okay. Or if it is something more serious like ear infection (which doesn’t look like it), or bad bones, etc; Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Yelping
by: Anonymous

I was going to suggest the knee problem. We had the same problem for about a year. Then noticed her holding her leg up. She doesn't yelp when she holds it up but randomley. It has never slowed her down and she will still yelp for what seems to be no reason but I'm sure it's the knee.

There is hope =)

Our 10 year old Boston "Bailey" yelped for a couple weeks and then it went away. He has not yelped for almost a 8 months and is doing great.

The only thing we did different was give him extra love and attention. It seemed to do the trick.

my boyfriend had a boston who started yelping for no apparent reason, followed by little hops around the house. shortly thereafter he died. unfortunately it seems to be a trend with bostons, like a last dance before they earn their wings... my boston just started the yelping and hops. we took her to the vet but they didnt find anything wrong. shes 14 and the other boston was 12, so hope for knee problems! but if there isnt an obvious problem, at least you can emotionally prepare yourself to say goodbye.

If your Boston is yelping for apparently no reason, ask your Vet to check his "knees" for dislocating patellas. My Susie was a little older when this started, but after x-rays, the patella problem was confirmed. It never progressed to be a serious problem, and it seemed to come and go throughout her lifetime. Susie shared her love and loyalty with us for almost 14 years!

Premium Food (?)
by: Anonymous

As far as yelping, crying and or barking all dogs do it sooner or later and I hate to tell you this but, just because you feed a dog premium food doesn't mean you will avoid vet bills. All dogs age and get sick, etc. so lots of luck if you think premium food is going to save you forever, L.
