Question about puppy mill survivor.

I am thinking of adopting a BT puppy mill survivor. She is only 8 weeks old. What kind of health problems should she be screened for (since she comes from questionable breeding)?
Also, there are several pups to choose from, some have more 'goldfish' eyes (buggy) and some are more inset eyes. Is one kind more desirable, or less prone to problems?

Puppy Mill Boston
by: Kathleen

Hi -
I'd have the puppy checked for the basics (shots, worms, etc.) with your vet. Beyond that, common problems with Bostons are noted in the health section of this site (e.g., patellar luxation). Eye problems are common with Bostons, too, since their eyes so prominent. As far as the looks of their eyes (buggy or not), that's a matter of personal preference, but the more prominent they are, the more possibility for them becoming damaged.

We adopted a 7 year old French Bulldog (in addition to our 2 Bostons) that is a PM survivor and she's absolutely wonderful. She's had some minor health issues, mostly due to neglect and being crated constantly (bad teeth, ear mites when she was picked up from the mill).

If you decide to rescue this puppy, he/she's way ahead of the game by getting out of the mill at only 8 weeks old.

Best of luck to you!
