Blue eyed Boston by: Stacy
I have a AKC Boston Terrier male that has one blue eye. I have had him throughly checked by a vet. He is not deaf nor does he have eye sight problems. When I am in the front yard he will actually look through the small hole in the fence with his blue eye to watch me. He is very smart. When we are at the dog park he will come to my whistle even when his at the back of the dog park. So he has good hearing as well.

Blue Eyed Girl by: Anonymous
i have a BT that has a blue eye. She is the smartest and energetic little dog i have ever owned. She is pregnant and giong to have puppies. I am nervous that her having a blue eye will effect the puppies. The sire have beautiful brown eyes. I guess I will wait and see when the puppies are born.

Blue-eyes Bostons carry gene for deafness and/or blindness by: Anonymous
Blue eyed Bostons carry genes that are linked to blindness and deafness and should never be bred.
The blue eyed trait is passed on as a throwback, which is a trait that was carried by one of the original parent dogs in the breed.
Blue eyes are not acceptable in the AKC show ring and because the dog's propensity to be blind and/or deaf, they should not be part of ANY breeding program.

Blue eyed BT by: andy_frk@hotmail.com
I also have a BT with a single beautiful blue eye he is great, not deaf, which is the very first thing everyone asks me. But i do have one question when i picked him up from the breeder she told me i would not be able to breed him because of his eye. I was so excited to see him that i forgot to ask the reason why she said that. Do you guys know by any chance if their is any harm or if it is at all true. I am not planning on breeding him anyway but i am very curious to know the answer.

Blue eye by: Sandi
I agree with Krystin. My Boston Terrier, Miloh, has one blue eye. Yes, it's quite interesting to look at but I still would not trade him for anything. Everything about him is quite normal for a Boston Terrier and like she said only a disqualification if you were showing him. Sometimes though I feel that his blue eye is sensitive to bright light. But other than that, it's just a blue eye. And a pretty blue at that!

Blued Eyed BT by: Krystin
Hello Debbie,
To help answer your question about Boston Terriers with blue eyes it is very important to for everyone to understand that a BT with a blue eye is not anyway to point out that the dog with the blue eye has some kind of genetic defect. Blue eyes are not a genetic anomaly, they can just be produced.
No one knows precisely how blue eyes are passed on. An obvious answer would be by breeding two dogs with blue eyes, all puppies should have at least one blue eye, correct? Not necessarily. I have been witness to a breeding (not of my own) that was of two Bostons, each with a blue eye, which produced a litter of 5 puppies, none having blue eyes. This would lead me to believe that blue eyes being a genetic trait that would always be passed on by mother and father having blue eyes would be incorrect.
Other ‘knowledgeable’ BT fanciers have long tried to correlate blue eyes with deafness. I have never seen any scientific evidence that has ever proved this theory. This is also not stating because they have a blue eye they can not be deaf, just stating that from my research BTs with blue eyes have no higher incidence of being deaf as the traditionally marked, two brown eyed, show dog sitting next to them. The only true way to know whether a dog is unilaterally deaf is by BAER test not by whether it has a blue eye or a predominance of white.
To answer your question in short, a Boston Terrier with a blue eye is not a genetic defect. I would say they are a little different than the BTs with two brown eyes. Just understand that a BT with a blue eye is a disqualification in the show ring. Also, no breeder should market a puppy with a blue eye as RARE or for more money because it has a blue eye.
Hope that I have helped.
