Question about our bostons behavior
Hi. We just purchased a boston terrier puppy about a month ago and she is now 7 months old and has been spayed. All my life I have had bostons and they were very loving with family and strangers. When we had to put our 6 year old down because of a herniated disk we decided to purchase another boston. This is my husband and I's 3rd boston. We got her from a boston terrier breeder and had her shipped in. The breeder has no children and only a husband.
When we got her home she would not come out of the crate. I gently pulled her out and held her on my lap. She kept shaking like a leaf. She got really used to me because I am a stay at home mom with a 2 year old. My son is 9 and goes to school and husband works full time during the day. She would not go near anyone else and when my husband would take her outside she would shake like crazy. She has gotten better with my son, daughter and husband. She goes up to them and kisses them but only when I am around. When I am out of the house like I was Saturday for a couple of hours running errands she would not come out of her crate. For my husband she hides underneath the kitchen table. She will not come around anyone unless I am present. I explained this to the breeder and explained to her bostons are not like this they are lovable and very outgoing and she just kept saying she needs to get used to us. Nov. 12 will be 2 months we have had her.
What can we do for her to be around everyone without me around? When relatives come over she barks and growls at them which has never happened to us before with our other dogs. The breeder was a woman and she said the dog was close to her but was able to get used to her husband. She keeps the dogs outside in a kennel. And as soon as we said we were going to purchase her she kept her inside her house and starting using the crate at night for her to sleep.
If with her being so used to me if other members are present nearby and she is in her crate she will not come out. I have been wondering and thinking why this dog is like this. Do you think she has been somehow abused? Can you please help. I feel so bad for my husband because the dog that we just put down he was really close to her and he says this dog he can't get close to. DZadr(at)aol.com please email me I would really appreciate your advise on this. Candace
