Question About Boston Terriers

do boston terriers have breathing problems because of their short muzzles? i think on dogs 101 they said pugs do. so do they?

ed. - they can, but not all do. short muzzled breeds are subject to a condition called brachycephalic syndrome - here's a link to the info here on our site.

Breathing
by: Minnie

Iam a nine year old Boston. My nose is not too short but recently I am having a hard time breathing. I dont want to liedown and I fall asleep on my feet. I wheeze. I can breath in some thru my nose but out thru my mouth. Does not react to allergie med, xrays are inconclusive. Seems to involve my head, not lungs.Has anyone else had these symtoms?

Yep they do snore loudly!
by: Eddie

My boston terrier snores every night as well! We basically just had to get used to it. His favorite place to sleep is bundled up in a ball under the blankets, so when he does snore it's not as loud as if he was on top of the blankets. Sometimes he sleeps under the bed too so he isn't as loud down there either. Sometimes he does this thing where he is trying to clear his sinuses and walks kind of funny while he does it, lasts about a minute or so. He usually does it when he gets excited, like when I get home from work or something. Maybe see if your boston will sleep under the blankets or something? I love mine to death. He is extremely attached to me and is my best friend!

Breath of Fresh Air
by: Mary

We have a very short-nosed BT and she has no medically-diagnosed problems. Unless you consider Snoring a "problem". She does have to be an INSIDE dog and go for shorter walks and when it's hot outside, she needs to stay IN, but we love her anyway. We just use earplugs at night!

They may have breathing problems, but they still can take your breath away!
