puppy ears

Hi my 5 baby Boston puppys ears look closed.I don't see a hole where they can hear from right now. Their eyes are still closed. Is it the same for the ears? and when will they open up or when can the puppies hear? They are 6 days old now. All the puppys are like this.

Ears to Hear

Yes, a puppy's ears stay closed for a while (they open from day 13-17, usually)...same with the eyes (they open from day 8-10). Sounds like you might like some information on puppy growth stages. I like this site

http://vetmedicine.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ/Ya&sdn=vetmedicine&cdn=homegarden&tm=231&gps=64_701_1004_559&f=10&tt=14&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/medical/whelping.html

Sorry the link is so long but maybe you can copy and paste it into your browser. Since your puppies are already born, you can skip over the first one million pages (exaggerated) and get to the Raising Puppies Timeline. If you plan to breed again, you can find more information about pregnancy, etc. at the beginning. Congratulations on your new litter!

If for some reason, the link does not work, google "Whelping puppies". You should be able to find some information there. Also, there should be some good books on whelping (and raising puppies) in the library. I never needed to go there because between the internet and my breeder, I found everything I needed.

Let us know how everything turns out. Don't forget to find good homes for your babies!
