Potty Training Regression after Room Change

by Teresa
(Maumelle, AR)

We recently switched my daughters bedroom with the office and turned the playroom (sort of like a family den) into a little tv room for her. Since we made the switch, our 19 month old boston (Dakota) has been having "accidents". She was difficult to train from the get-go. She hates walking on grass, especially if it's wet, and prefers patio, tile, and carpet as surfaces on which to defecate. We have a doggie door and my husband's on disability, so she's not confined to the house all day and without companionship. We need advice!

Potty training regression
by: Teresa

Things have gotten worse since last posting. Our BT will pee outside my daughter's closed door sometimes, she now routinely poops on the rug and pees on carpet since it's winter (and snow on ground!) We originally began her outside potty training by taking her outside to a an area she seemed to prefer and told her to go potty. If the weather was nice she obeyed, but if rainy or cold she wouldn't go or would go on patio. We got the doggie door because she wouldn't tell us when she needed to go and we also needed her to have a way to go when we weren't at home. I am willing to start from scratch if someone can tell me what to do. We love our dog but she's running the house. She doesn't mind and even growls and nips at times. Last night she jumped up on the couch beside me and peed! I need help!

Unfortunately your dog has not been fully potty trained. It is coincidental that you changed your room. Dogs don't just start going potty in the house if they are truly potty trained. A doggie door to have access to go out is not going to help potty training either. In order to help or give you suggestions what method have you tried for complete potty training?
