Pierce's Breeze

by Pastor Mark Carter Pierce
(Newark, New Jersey)

Our little girl, "Pierce's Breeze" was born June 1st 2009 and went to heaven October 9th 2011. She was hit by a car whose driver did not stop. I buried my best friend myself yesterday, after kissing her head and telling her I'll always love her & never forget her. Although I have had many pets and still have 3 cats, "Bree" as we call her was the most gentle, loving family member I ever had. I am dealing with her loss heavily, the memories are flooding over me; I cry hourly-more than I have for human family members who have departed. I know I can get another one-the breeder I got "Bree" from will have more of her sisters and brothers in 2 months (and I can have the pick of the litter), but she will NEVER replace Bree. I will NEVER forget her, and always love her! And for those who think this foolish; "It's only a dog", I say this: Try it.

It does get better

My thoughts are with you and your family. I can tell you that its been over a year since I lost my lil Boston boy and I still start to cry when I think about his last hours. Getting another dog will help your heart. It has mine...My family waiting for about 6 months before deciding to get a new puppy. It was a german shepherd this time although we wanted a Boston terrier. We were apprehensive that getting another boston would mean we were trying to replace our lil boy and that it wouldn;t be the same...We still haven't got another boston puppy. The German Shepherd is just over a year old now and lights up my heart every day. We also gave my Brother's Boston terrier, Bella, a new home once his new son was born. bella has also aided in the healing. She is caring and so loving. just like our lil boy was. I still miss him and wish I could turn back time and do more to try to keep him safe.

I completely understand how you feel about losing Bree; so do all the other dog lovers and Boston parents. We lost our first Boston, Bogie, early one morning. He was hit by a pick-up truck speeding down our country road at 5:30 in the morning. He did stop, and he did shed tears, and I can only hope he learned a lesson and doesn't speed any more. We were desolate without Bogie, and we did adopt another Boston baby 8 weeks later; our Darby was born the day after Bogie, and he is very much like Bogie, just not quite as brave. We've also adopted a Boston rescue. Darby saved our sanity; he never will be Bogie, and there never will be another Bogie. But there is
Darby, and he is never off leash...

Don't let anyone tell you that it's easy to get "over it" or that you would even wish to do so just yet. Our 6 year old French Bulldog had to be "put-down" a year ago April. He came down with lymphoma when he was only three years old. We treated his disease for the next 3 years....but he would not stay in remission. He went into convulsions one evening when our regular vet office was closed, so we had to take him to the Emergency Vet clinic to let him pass.
We have since adopted another Frenchie and a "boggle (Boston terrior/Beagle mix) and we love them very much. But we don't think they will EVER take his place.

It may help if you adopt another little one to love and care for.....just remember the new one will have a totally different personality and must be treated as such. You will never be able to fill that hole in your heart totally. But life does go on. I also never thought my husband and I would ever mourn so much for our pet.

We also have lost "human" loves and we seemed to heal alot faster. That's probably because we didn't care for their needs on a regular basis as we did our Frenchie. Pets are a gift from God
allowing us to love them and have them love us back.

I will keep an eye out for an update when you decide to adopt your next little one.....you will smile again!.....just watch him love you, learn from you and grow to care for you as you will certainly care for him.
