Picking the right Boston Terrier puppy

I absolutely LOVE boston terriers, and am looking into getting one as a family pet, but also would like to breed them as well. For the first one we are going to get a female... what exactly should I look for? I know what is "cute" to me at least, but I want to be able to breed her and have her babies come out as healthy and beautiful as possible... so, my question is:
what do you look for when picking out your puppies?
do where the markings on the parents are matter? i know there are "perfect markings" but if the parents don't have them, does that mean their babies wont?

Breeding BTs
by: Linda Galway/TurnerME

You are asking some really important questions, and that tells me you want to breed sound puppies who are healthy both in physical attributes and temperament. There are many web sites which will give you the Boston Terrier breed standard; however, some of it won't be so easy to understand. I suggest you find out where there are some dog shows and attend when the BTs are being shown. In the catalog you will find the name of breeders you can talk to "after" they have shown their dogs. (Most are a little nervous just before the actual showing.)You can also search online for local breeders who indicate they have been breeding for a long time, or have other indications of breeding sound puppies. There's no rush to do this. You need to educate yourself as to what is required. Have you found a BT yet? Perhaps you can forge a relationship with a breeder you come to trust; reputable breeders will REQUIRE you to sign a contract to spay or neuter what is considered a "pet" quality puppy. This doesn't mean the dog is unsound; it only means this dog doesn't have all the right attributes for the show ring. There is so much involved in this, I have merely touched on the topic. Read. Learn. Research. Reach-out. Fast is slow, slow is fast. Good luck.
