Peeing in crate

by Lenee

I have a 7 month old Boston named Tessa. She is constantly peeing in her crate which by the way is not big at all. There is a divider in her crate so her space is limited. She gets walked at 8:30 and then the dog walker comes at 12. She does not get water after her morning walk but still pees in her crate. Even when the dog walker comes she will do both for him outside. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop her from peeing in her crate? I am at my wits end here. Because she is 7 months old she should be able to hold it for 4 hours. What to do , what to do.

I look forward to hearing any feedback and ideas if you have them.

Crate peeing
by: Annabelle's Mom

I have a 12 wk old female that I purchased from a pet store 2 wks ago. She was used to going with a hard porous surface below her feet and used her crate as her toilet. It seems she may be over it (knock, knock) since I put the crate in the kitchen with a puppy bed that fills up her divided half, covered the bed with half an old sheet that I slept on and covered the crate with the other half. I then put pee pads down all around (I come home every 6 hrs of a 12 hr shift and she still freezes up to go outside but, one thing at a time). Anyway, the very first time I put her in it she checked it out, went out & got her bone & went back in on her own. No use of the crate and lots of success with the pads.

Our Boston is 8 months and having the same issue. She is inconsistent in when she pees in her crate but she typically does at least once a day. I do come home at lunch to let her out during the work day but this doesn't seem to help as she goes in her crate by the time I come home at the end of the day. She was pooping a lot to throughout the day and even in her crate. We switched to a limited ingredient dog food which has helped a lot. We also give her probiotic treats to which I think helps.

Check for Bladder Infection
by: Huxley

You might want to check for a bladder or UTI infection. Even while out of the crate, if they're going every hour that might mean they have something going on inside, especially given the age of your BT.

Our female BT is 4 months old and we've struggled with the crate elimination issue, too. Outside of the crate she's great about going to the door to let us know. However, 1-2 hour stints in her crate have yielded pee for some strange reason. She's getting better as she gets older so I'm hoping it's something she'll grow out of.

My Boston will be a year old in march. We are having the same problem. she absolutely knows that outside is where she goes she is let out just about hourly and has only two rooms in which she is allowed yet if she has to go in between outings she just goes in the house and then runs into her cage knowing the she is gonna get reprimanded. I have tried to teach her to bark at the door with no luck. I am at my wits end. She doesn't go in her crate however I am lucky with that!!

My Boston does the same thing,,,GRRRR
by: Anonymous

Hey good luck with that. I am a stay at home mom with an 8 month old Boston named Digger. We have serious issues with peeing and pooping constantly, in crate, out of crate, doesnt matter. I am at my wits end too. My Boston has unlimited time to go out, every hour, and then some, and he still goes. He knows it wrong, and he tries to hide it, but will sometimes squat right in front of me. I am starting to think he is utterly and completely stupid, either that or his bowles and bladder are the size of a pea...Poor guy I am going for the latter. Hes so sweet, but we are considering finding him a new home because of this issue. I have tried every trick in the book, and I am not rich enough to hire Ceaser Milan..LOL...Good luck with your little one and if you find a solution thats works for you let me know.....Take care!

peeing in crate

Do you have bedding in the crate? If so, remove it. I know she will have to sleep on a hard surface for a while, but this might stop her from peeing in the crate... it worked for my bloodhound years ago.
