Our BT throws up every day

Peaches is 9 years old and for the past 3 or so years she throws up on a daily basis. She has been to multiple vets and they can't find the cause. I used to work for the SPCA and most dogs that throw up that much usually do not live as long as she has. She used to be very active and since she has started to throw up,she has stopped being so playful(as would be normal with anyone who doesn't feel well).

We feed her wet food once a day and she also has her dry food and table scraps. YES,we did try a special diet and it did no good, she was the same. She isn't losing any weight and seems to be happy. She just starts throwing up all of a sudden. Most of the time and drools a lot. Sometimes her vomit is really foamy or snotty looking and thick and sticky.

Prescription food
by: Anonymous

Hi Sheila,
We've had Lucy on the Royal Canin Gastrointestinal HE (high energy) for the last few days and so far so good. I am starting to really think that it is food allergies since she got into her buddy's food over the weekend and soon threw that up. Hope Peaches is doing better!!
You can check out the food below but I think you need a prescription to get it.

I love Lucy

Please let me know how things go with Lucy. We had to take Peaches to the vet last night because she started vomiting blood.

Lucy also vomiting daily
by: Ilovelucy

My three year old Boston is also vomiting daily. She has been to the vet and had x-rays, a fecal test and then another round of x-rays with barium. I'm crossing my fingers that she may have developed a food allergy and will be working to add rice to her diet and cut down on the dry food with grains. Good luck! Hate seeing another Boston in pain.

Boston

We have noticed that our boston will do this also when she encounters quick temperature changes such as going from inside a warm house, to outside to use the bathroom, and then back inside. Don't know if that is the cause... but that is the only thing we could attribute her throwing up to.

So sorry to hear that. Your boston is so cute. Few things come to my mind as I am a boston mom too. 1) has the vet done blood work and evaluated your dog's liver values? Sometimes as they age, the internal organ functions began to decline so the liver values can indicate any rise and possible cause of throwing up. This was the case with my friend's boston who was 8 yrs old.

2)Bostons have sensitive stomach and sometimes eating fast can bother them and cause throwing up. There are food bowls on the higher table like trays so it is elevated and helps with some dogs having problems with swallowing and throwing up. Also there are bowls that are made for a slower pace of eating (have bumps inside) so it helps your pup slowly eats the food.

3) have u tried to changed the kind of food u are feeding? there might be just one ingredient that causing allergy and causing your dog to throw up. I can be the same case with table scraps so I would do a trial time which includes very simple dry food like Royal Canin Duck and Potato (u need vet prescription for it but worths trying because it did wonders for my boston). Also I would not give your dog wet food as it is heavy and difficult to digest for your dog. So a trial time with only dry food and NO table scarps. Sometimes dogs develop allergy to something they have been eating for a long time. Mine developed allergy to chicken (it was in her food for one yr).

4) also make sure what she is eating off the floor, around the house, and in the yard. Sometimes some stuff like dead spider or frogs in the yard cause throwing up and etc.

5) Try giving your dog pepto bismol 2 teaspoon right after throwing up.

6) Also divide her food into smaller portions and into 3-4 times a day. After eating don't let him jump too much up and down.

Hope some of it works.

Hi! See if your vet can prescribe carafate for her. It acts as an internal bandage and protects the insides from irritants. It can calm her stomach. You usually give it at least 20 minutes before they eat. It's worth a try. Good luck.
