I have a 9wk old Boston Terrier boy I bought from a rescue shelter. He has one blue and and one brown eye. I think its so beautiful and I love him very much. But I'm starting to worrie regarding his blue eye, I have been told that the blue eyes are known to be or go blind. Does anyone know anything regarding this? If it is true I would like start doing whatever I can to make sure he is always happy and healthy.

One Blue Eye

My vet said it can signify deafness and with my Boston puppy he was right. His deafness was discovered at 8 weeks. We noticed that when he fell asleep he couldn't be woke up with noise. We banged pans above his head and still no response. So now we are learning sign language.

Old Blue (and Brown) Eyes NEW

Your puppy's eyes do look pretty cool!

The reason people say that blue eyes may be blind is because the gene that makes white hair and blue eyes is not as "strong" as the black/brown gene. Therefore if there is too much white around the face then the eyes/ears MAY be affected.

Even if your puppy was blind in the blue eye...he still has another one! Usually the dog with one eye blind (or one ear deaf) will function quite normally with the owner never noticing that there is this problem.

If you want to know for sure if your dog is blind in his blue eye you can get your puppy tested. You will need to go to a specialist for that and your vet can provide you with the nearest provider. He may even be able to tell you there in his office.
