Odd excited/greeting sounds

We have a rescued Boston Terrier. She gets excited when someone greets her and instead of barking she makes a "woo-woo" noise. If you "woo-woo" back at her, she gets even more excited and "woo-woos" even more!

I've never heard a dog vocalize in quite that way. Is that a normal Boston Terrier characteristic or unique to our dog?

My Boston does the same
by: Oscars Mommy

It might be a common thing as mine does the same! Instead of a growl it sounds like he is saying woo woo. Adorable! And he does repeat it over and over again when you talk to him. He also "answers" when we ask him if he's hungry or has to poop. Maybe it's common, maybe it's not, but it sounds like we have some interesting Bostons!

Talking Dogs
by: Mary

I don't know if your BT being "vocal" is "normal" but it sure is cute! If you watch Animal Planet you will see some dogs that can say "I Love You" and such. Our little BT says "ARGHHH ARGHHH" and another "noise" that I just can't find letters for. Usually that means she wants in the room. It's almost as good as having a dog that can catch a frisbee!
