Nervous Boston Terrier

I have a 23 month old male Boston Terrier and it breaks my heart on how he shakes so bad when people are around him, he does not socialize with other dogs and just hides in a room. Is there any thing I can do to help him feel more comfortable and socialize more. Plus he refuses to eat... even in a private room away from everyone. When its just me and him he is playful and acts normal.
