My two-year-old Boston, Elvis, is still destroying furniture. Help?

Elvis Presley

We bought Elvis as a puppy and had him potty trained in 3 weeks, he is ridiculously smart. And he is a great dog, except for the chewing. He has stolen and destroyed an Ipod, cell phone, Blue tooth headset, remote control, bean bag chair...you get the point!

He walks 20 minutes daily at a brisk clip and stays in the kitchen while we are away...well that is our idea anyway. He is a bit of a Houdini, he always escapes the kitchen no matter how secure we make it. We even bought a 4.5 foot metal baby gate, he cleared it.
I am not sure what to do!

I have a schnauzer who tears up my couch while im gone, but he sleeps in a crate at night. I tryed muzzles but he gets them off his face.I don't want to crate him all day after he sleeps in one all night.I have a pen but he barks and howls so my hubby lets him out.

Hi
I would suggest buying a crate and crating your Boston when ever your not home. I do this with mine and she really doesn't mind. She often goes to her crate on her own for a nap or if I am upset with her, it is her safe place/ den. Also crating stops any accidents from happening while I am away attaining higher knowledge and I find no bits and pieces of chewed on articles and I have piece of mind that she is safe from harm (ingesting items that could be of serious consequence to her).

Take care and give your Boston a hug!

It may be too late, but we make sure there are knotted rawhide bones always available for our two Bostons. However, we started them out when we first got them, so I don't know if that is a solution in your case. We also attached a six foot leash to the bottom of our kitchen cabinets and tied them up while we were gone. They both have grown up knowing they are to stay in the kitchen when we are gone now. Only used the leash for about a year. A third option is to get another one. Two of them keep each other busy and entertained without additional care on your part. Good luck!
