help with aggression
by: Heather D.

First, let me say that I have empathy for your situation. Truman developed an excited/dominant personality around 8 months, and at one point, I wasn't sure we would be able to keep him. He bit both of my kids several times and that was nearly the end of his stay with our family. HOWEVER, ALL THAT HAS CHANGED!!! My first recommendation is that you have him neutered if that hasn't already been done. Male dogs, just like female dogs, were meant to mate twice a year, and if they don't, that frustration builds up. By neutering, you are removing those hormones and the frustration. My second recommendation is you follow the principles outlined by Cesar Millan in his book, "Cesar's Way". I realized that Truman's behavior was a result of me not being an effective pack leader and not providing him what he needs as a dog! I was treating him like a 3rd child, and that was absolutely the wrong answer. When I made the decision to change how I was doing things, I saw immediate results. Your dog is probably attacking other dogs because he feels the need to protect you. If you show him that you are the pack leader he will quickly learn that you don't need his protection. Again, I highly recommend Cesar Millan's book and his exercise/discipline/affection principles. THEY WORK!!!

Going for the throat

Wow! I have never heard of this before. 9 months is pretty young but now is the time to train him properly. I would try the obedience schools at PetsMart or another place. This is very important so that your pup doesn't end up being in big trouble! Hopefully you will have him fixed since the aggression can be passed on to offspring. We sure don't want the Bostons' to get the same reputation as the Pit Bulls or other aggressive dogs.

It's weird because Bostons are known for their friendliness. Perhaps he is just "playing"? Having him Neutered should also relieve some of the aggression. If you have already had that done then definitely go through the obedience training. Maybe we will see you on TV with Cesar Milan!!!

Good Luck!
