My BT doesn't seem to go into heat regularly..

My female BT "Precious" is now 4 years old and I am wanting to breed her, the problem is I haven't been able to really pin point when she will go into heat. It seems that she only has one heat a year and it's never at the same time. Last year it was in July, this year I realized she was in heat just a couple days ago. Because I have NO idea when she is going to go into heat I haven't been able to be prepared to mate her and by the time I am able to get everything prepared and someone bring their male to stud then I feel like it's been too long and I have missed the chance to get her pregnant. I still mate her but it doesn't take and no puppies!

If you are willing to put in a little extra expense then you can call your vet and together decide what needs to be done. He can do some testing and see what is going on with your pup and make suggestions. Some pups only go into heat once a year but more likely it is 9 or 10 months apart. It's not THAT uncommon. My females were about 7 and 8 months apart for their heat cycles. It's possible that she may have some female problems or perhaps the male did.

Speak to the breeder you received her from and see if she knows of anything in her line regarding these kinds of problems.

Good Luck and let us know how things turn out.
