My Boston can get very testy

I have a 1 year old male boston. Every now and then he gets very mean. For whatever reason if you go near him he'll growl and snap at you. If the other dogs go near him he'll attack them. I know one time he went into a mood because he was told to get out of the office chair. That set him off for the night. He was acting as if he was going to attack someone.

He's not a dominant dog at all. I thought maybe it was because he wasn't neutered so that was done last week.

I have younger children so this behavior makes me very nervous. I love this dog to pieces but I don't know what to do. The behavior is very sporadic but when it happens it's scary.

Is this normal for a boston? I always thought and read bostons were a great family pet. I have friends that told me no they are not.

Any info were certainly help.

Was he/she abused? If not, this dog sounds very dominant. Are you sure your kids aren't playing too rough with her/him?? My first Boston, Alafia and second, Coal was never abused and always attacked and still does, attack other dogs and is very stubborn. If I try and move them outta any where they wanna be or god forbid, give them a bath or put eye drops or cut nails, it's psycho time. :( Although, they both were amazing with kids!! and amazing pets and worth thr querky little personalities! If he/she is associating a bad experience with moving off the chair, that might be why! I always (and I hate to say it) thought Alafia came from a bad breeder and mighta been abused. I got her from backwoods Florida and there were tons of them locked in little cages!:(
