Male Boston Terrier question

Hi I was just wondering when a male boston terrier was ready to breed. I know that females need to wait tell there second cycle, and I know males dont have cyles so dont think I am dumb...I am just curious as to if I should just let him go at it whenever he wants or if I should make him wait tell he turns a certain age. Thanks in advance

You are right about males not having a breed cycle. I would wait atleast til he is a year old though, especially if you just got him. Breeding is a big responsibility and should not be taken lightly. You want to breed to produce the healthiest and best temperament pups. Parents can affect their offspring's mood so if he or she is not of a good temperament or conformation then I would not suggest it. It is up to us to promote this great breed and ill informed breeders bring a bad name to our circles. I would say do your research and make sure this is the best for not only you but the unborn pups. Babies need a lot of care too. If you provide the best for them you will not make a ton of money so think about that also.

You are right to research when is the best time for males to breed. They do need to mature in order to have a more viable seed. I have read that it is best to wait a full year to a year and a half. This gives the offspring a better chance for survival. If you have a female yourself, then you are in control of how old she is. But if you are having your male "Standing at Stud" then you will want to make sure the females are at least 2 years old among all the other health checks, testing, and immunizations you will be checking for.
