BELLA

Hi! We have had our Boston for three months now. She is 5 months old on the 30th of this month... Where to start...First we love her and want her to be a part of our family. She is crate trained and very playful. So those are great but here are our concerns.....She loves her poop! We think this is soooo nasty! We have a two year old and do not want her anywhere around any of us esp. our son when she eats her poop! We have tried everything to get her stop (stool eating pills, cleaning it up as soon as possible, and telling her no) none of this works....PLEASE HELP!!!!

Another concern we have is her running away from us, chasing cars if she escapes our hold, chasing bikes, and she also barks at anyone and even her reflection....its so frustrating!!!! She goes crazy and jumps and barks and nips at people that come over.....so we have to put her in her crate while people are over and listen to her bark in there.....there has got to be an easier way!!! Please HELP!!!!

Another thing is she jumps on the baby and us....and it hurts...How do you get her to stop jumping on the baby, us, and the furniture ?????

And she is just playing, we know...but she bites all the time and that hurts too...we are so afraid for our two year old to play with her bc we are afraid she will bite him....????

Please help us....we want her to be a part of our family but her actions are making it difficult esp with a two yr old.... :(

poo eating

My vet suggested putting tabasco sauce on the poo. He saud that puppies do it out of curosity and may just develop a habit of it. He said that the tabasco sauce will turn it bitter and the pup will not want to do it again. Don't know if it works though

BT Poop Eating
by: Anonymous

We had a nightmare with our Boston Terrier eating her own poop. The poop eating lead to stomach problems, which lead to more pooping, which lead to more poop eating. You said she is already crate trained which is a huge step. Now get rid of your puppy pads if you are using them, take her outside frequently, and pick up her and any other pets poop as soon as she goes. When she gets back in feed her a treat. It will make her want to go outside and when she goes she will want the treat, not her poop.

Puppy Blues
by: Mary

Your BT is just a typical puppy. He needs to be trained though to keep you both happy. There are obedience schools at the pet shops. Also Cesar Millan probably has some tips: http://www.cesarsway.com/.

All BT's get very excited right at first and then quickly tucker out.

After about 2 years your puppy will be perfectly behaved. Just watch your baby very closely around the puppy. Cesar likes to say that there are no bad dogs...just bad dog owners.

Good Luck and Congratulations!

Issues and Concerns
by: Sharri

I have a Boston that is 4 that ate other dogs poop that last couple years. They say it is boredom or possibly a lack of something in the diet. You may try to switch to a high quality dog food or another brand. Maybe she is lacking certain minerals or something. There are also products to use to make it taste bitter.

The biting and jumping sounds like she is really hyper. My Boston slowed down a little after 2, but they are hyper by nature. They learn quickly so I would say consistant and contant training. Also, make sure you walk her on the leash. I think this gets rid of a lot of excess energy and they learn dicipline and also lots of attention helps. I got mine a "Big Ball" - a kids large rubber ball. I put her in a room with the door closed and let her go crazy bumping it around. It wears her out. Hope that helps!
