My husband and I are going out of town for a few days, leaving our two Bostons at home with a sitter. What are some ways to keep them occupied and to ease my worry?
We've done this a lot. We usually provide some tug-tug toys, special treats, launder the favorite blankets, etc. and make sure the dogs have had baths and toenails done. After they play, they'll probably want to curl up in the sitter's lap and take a nap, so warn him/her to go to the bathroom first, make sure the phone, tv remote and laptop are within reach and there is reading material nearby. It could turn into a marathon... if the sitter is sleeping overnight, and I presume that's the case, make sure you provide some good food options!
What I'm trying to say is don't worry, go away and enjoy your vacation. They'll all be fine; however, I would notify your vet that you're leaving and if the sitter needs their services, you will pay for everything with the credit card when you get back. You can always call them with the number even while you're on vacation.
