Itchy boston

I thought Piglet had learned a new trick, wriggling on her back on the carpet until I realized she had learned 2 new tricks! The other being that she stands and uses the underneath of my coffee table as a back scratcher. That is why she wriggles on the carpet. Does anyone know how to relive her of her itching? She hasn't got dry or flaky skin, her coat is just as shiny as it can be, until she goes mudding :O) she loves to roll in the mud or even dry dirt.

Also, does anyone know why she would insist on eating other animals feces? I have used the stuff that is supposed to make cat feces taste bad to her...it is poop after all! but that didnt work, now she has turned to trying to eat Ruby's as well....Oh man! Help, Please!!!

I finally got my dog's allergies under control. He is on a strict diet of a dog food with venison and hardly any other additives. I noticed a difference in a week. I keep up on his ears, which have cleared up almost totally. It took a visit to an allergy vet to get some understanding.

My boston did this until I started feeding him canned tuna 2 or 3 times a month. He also drags his hiney across the carpet and all I have to do is tell him to "assume the position" and he lies across my legs to get his back scratched. lol

Allergies

My 11-month-old Boston developed a couple of patches where he lost hair. We noticed him scratching those places, as well. We took him to the vet immediately. He has seasonal allergies. They gave him an antibiotic to treat the places he had scratched as they had developed bacteria on them. The vet advised against Benadryl because of the lethargic factor. He recommended generic Chlotrimeton (sp). My dog is a very large Boston, and he said to give him 4mg twice a day, which is the amount of med. in each pill. He also gave us an ointment to put on his spots twice a day. We've been doing this for a week. He doesn't seem to be as itchy, but it doesn't seem that the spots are growing any hair either. The vet said it could take time to see improvement and would depend on the pollen.

We feed him Blue dog food from the Blue Buffalo Co. It doesn't have corn, wheat, or by-products and is a holistic food. This has helped with his gas, as well. This Boston will stink you out of a room!

shampoo and poop eating
by: Holly

Ichy skin can be caused by a number of causes. Over bathing a boston can cause red ichy skin. Boston's have notoriously dry skin. The over-use of a shampoo product or the use of the wrong product can cause dryer skin and eventually a having a opportunistic bacteria infection. We use a detergent free shampoo called, "Hylyt" avail @ pet stores. Shampoo no more than once a month.

Upgrade your dog food to a corn-free formula.

The use the flea products may help such as Frontline Plus. By the way, one can purchase the higher weight formula and divide it up into doses. For instance, one can buy a 60 lb or over dose and divide it four ways (4 times 15lbs) to be applied for 4 months and saving huge amounts of cash. We empty the dose into a small medicine measuring cup. We then divide it up equally into (4) medicine droppers. Save to be applied monthly.

Poop eating...

Gross but common. Use "Forbid" in food. Available online at Fosters and Smith.

Good Luck,

eating fecies

our 5 month old puppy does the same thing, rolls around on his back on the carpet.

I read that dogs eat feces because they are lacking a certain nutrient in their diet. Cesar just did an episode about this and he presented the dog with different foods to figure out what he was missing and gave that to him when he was around poop and ignoring it. You can and definitely should do something about it.

Good luck!

EAT POOP

If they are your pets, switch those pet's food. I recommend a higher grade food with a lot of fiber. I chose food with no by-product (first baby is allergic) If it smells like food going in good. But your baby may think it smells like food when it comes out. You may want to carry some Apple Bitter with your and if you catch them trying to eat something say "NO" and pull them back and spritz it really quick. Also, you may want to get your home tested for Bacteria just in case your baby is pooping and eating it when you are not around.

My Boston does the same things, even pulls himself across the carpet with his front paws. I think it has something to do w/ allergies. I was told by a vet today that you can use children's benedryl. Something like 5mg per pound of your dog's weight. I'm going to try this starting tonight. As for eating poop, I don't think you can stop it. My dog used to try to take my daughter's diapers. (nasty). Well good luck.
