Murhy

Murhy

Murphy is 4 months old and I've been saying he's a BT...was told he was and vet said yes but now I'm wondering. I did not see his parents or siblings. I was told he was the only white one and that is why he was last to go. Doesn't matter either way, he is the best! But...I don't want to be passing him off as a BT if he's a Frenchbo. How do I know for sure?

He is a Boston
by: Anonymous

I Have had Bostons for years. We had 3 full Boston litters, and they all look different.Very seldom did we get more than one that looked exactly like their mom or dad. They are all cute and unique in their own way. But they are Bostons.
My females looks just like the one at the top of this page.

Adorable for sure

I raise Frenchtons and he does look like one but the Boston terrier was created using a French bulldog and some other breeds and every once in a while a throwback will pop up looking more like a frenchie or have a different coat pattern other than a traditional Boston terrier. Your little guys is defiantly a splash Boston at least. Very cute and adorable! Enjoy him it does not matter with a face like that.

I have one too!
by: Melissa

I have a Boston Terrier who looks very similar to your dog. She's got the big ears and long nose too. I met both of her parents and her siblings, all which are AKC registered Bostons. Just because they don't look like the classic Boston, doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't pure bred. My vet and trainer said that she has seen other pure breds that look like mine. Bostons come in all different shapes and sizes. Yours is very cute!! I just love the huge ears! I say he's a Boston!

Here's my Boston for comparison:

how cute...but suspiciously like Sophie
by: Peri in St. Louis

...see my note when it gets posted...sending a picture later.

Sophie ( A 50/50 or 75% "Brat" mix) has a longer nose. She looks 75% Rat Terrier, but this little baby looks not only feminine and delicate, but, yes, possibly 25% something more slender and leggy like her. (Like, a "Brat" mix Mom and a full-Boston Dad=25%)

In puppy mills (where the papers for one dog are routinely presented as the pedigree of another, and "oops!" throwbacks or breed mixes get passed off as purebreds) you'll see this big deviation from breed standard even in pure-bred dogs....and even a whole look-alike regional "type" of purebred that is not breed standard but may be lovely and very characteristic of that area.

Here in the MO/AR/Eastern IL and Eastern OK/KS (but mostly AR/MO, I think) there is a beautiful Boston (like the cuties with the pit bull having a nap, who may just be a leggy puppy) which looks more like a miniature black Boxer than a sturdy, mildly chunky, broad-chested little forehead-forward traditional Boston. I have a Boxer-shaped one like that--a rescue from downstate--and he's gorgeous. I call him (Punkin) my "Beauty Boy".

I also have a true old-style chunky little stinker of a Boston from a puppy mill who is purebred without a doubt, but due to malnutrition and poor breeding has a weak back end and ears that don't stand up, an under-sized lower jaw with weak, tiny teeth that fall out during tug-o-war...but what a smart and loving little scrapper.

All that said, this is a very pretty and sweet looking little boy. I hope you don't feel disappointed, or if you crave an old-style Boston, you get another and love them equally.
