Is a BT right for me?

I was just wondering if a boston terrier was going to be alright for me. I live in sydney and it can get pretty hot here in summer. Would the boston terrier fare well staying home for a few times during the day a week? and would it be able to sleep outside or have to sleep indside? Any help would be appreciated.

Bostons belong inside

Boston's need companionship all the time!! I think once you get one you also will never want to leave it's side. They also are house dogs because they cannot take extreme heat or cold. I wouldn't recommend leaving a boston unattended outside because someone could possibly steal them from you.

I would also like to add that BTs should either be kept tethered while you are out, or on a leash with you, or in a fenced or penned area with no escape. They will chase squirrels, chipmunks, leaves... anything that could be vermin of any sort. So please, unless your dog is under voice-control through lots of obedience training... keep them secure.

It is always recommended that Boston be an inside dog however, I have heard of ppl keeping them outside in certain situations but if it gets real hot I definitely would not leave him or her outside.

No matter where you live, no matter what the temperature fluctuations, Bostons are indoor dogs. A Boston would just hate being away from you, knowing you were inside and he/she was outside for considerable lengths of time. It's hard enough when they are left alone inside while you're at work or away. We like to have them in pairs, or at least with another dog or cat, so they aren't alone. We always leave the TV going, air conditioners on if necessary, ceiling fans, etc. A Boston may be the absolutely best dog for you, if you are willing to have it inside and comfortable. They are susceptible to heat and cold, so in hot weather, a brief excursion outside, some swimming is OK, but otherwise indoors. In cold weather, sweaters or jackets or both. They have no undercoat. They must live indoors with you most of the time. On days with moderate temps, if you're outside, they will do well outside with you.
Good luck in finding the right dog for you, and let us know if you do choose a Boston.
