my female had 7 pups in her first litter. all were free welped and were born in two hours start to finish! they just kept poppin out one right after the next! mom got really tired by the third so i had to help her get them out during contractions. she would get the head out but then would want to go to sleep. so i got to break the water on the last four and pull them the rest of the way out for her. all 7 were good size healthy pups and all of them lived! it was quite an experience!

By now you have probably had your puppies.
With our first litter there was 2 hours between the first and second puppy. But every labor, and every puppy is so different that it doesn't really matter. We pray everything went well. Here are some sources to read for the "rest of the whelping and care of the puppies"...
Please write back and tell us your whole story. I just love hearing them all. During our first litter, we watched our girl for almost 12 hours. It was exhausing. We have had 3 litters and 1 1/2 years experience now, but it always amazes me what goes on. Our girl free-whelps and I hope you did not have to experience the c-section. Let us know how things turned out!
