Most of the time a female will have 4 to 6 puppies. As a general rule; the bigger the female, the more puppies in a litter. We had a female that weighed 14 pounds, her litters were always 6. Our 17 pound female had 7 puppies and our 23 pound female had 9 puppies. Our friend had a 17 pound female who had 5 puppies. Typically, I see most females with 5 and sometimes 6.
