How long on puppy food before switching?

Hi Everyone! I am getting a Boston Terrier puppy in 1 week. I picked her out from the litter when she was only 1 week old because the breeder sells his babies so fast. It's been a long wait and I am so excited. I had a BT as a kid so I am aware of what is ahead, and I am trying to do some reading and get all of my ducks in a row before I bring her home. I also have a 4 year old, 5 lb Chihuahua who currently eats Eukanuba small breed dog food freely. At first I thought that they could both just eat puppy food, but after doing some research I think that I should feed them separate because of all of the extra added nutrition in puppy food. So now that I am going to feed them separate I was hoping someone could help me by giving any advice they may have...like how long will she need to be on puppy food? I think feeding my Chihuahua freely will have to stop because I don't want anything to confuse my new puppy. Any advice would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!!! :)

Most vets say one year on puppy food but as your puppy grows only your vet will be watching him and be able to decide when to quit.

Puppy food for one year
by: Ninette

When I got Bibi the vet advised me to keep her on puppy food for a year. I fed her Hills pellets for small breeds and supplemented it with the Hills canned food for a treat. Enjoy this time! The puppy phase is a lot of work, but flies by way too fast.
