Holding his potty

by Loving Boston mom

How long does it take before a Boston terrier can hold his potty trips? Our 7 month boy is great to potty when he goes outside. While awake we try and take him out about every two hours. He was doing great for a while, but recently he has gone potty on the tile if the two hours has elapsed. (Today it way two hours and fifteen minutes.) I know they have small bladders, but I had hoped at some point they could go 3 to 4 hours at some point. Thanks!

Potty Time

Both of my Bostons were pretty reliable by 6-8 months and could hold it all day, as long as they were in their crates. Until 6 months, I had a relative go over every day for a 4-5 hour potty break, and then I got home about 3 hours later. Our third Boston is a rescue, and she spent about 18 hours a day in her crate, so she did have accidents in there, but after we got her, it took about 2 days for her to make the transition to an outdoor potty routine, and she's never had an accident. She was 16 months old when we got her.

Is there any blood? Is the urine pink-ish? If so, I would suspect a urinary tract information.

I think it was at 2 years old that we FINALLY could let our guard down with our bostons. Boy that seemed like FOREVER!!!! But now there are no more accidents inside. We do let them out about every couple of hours. One female goes and sits by the back door when she needs to go. Some people use the jingle-bell rope on the door to potty train. They ring it every time they let the dog out to go potty. Soon the dog will ring that bell when he needs to go!

Try different things and remember to be patient!
