High Fever...what to do??

Elizabeth Ann

Elizabeth Ann "Lizzie" on a good day!

My 1.5 year old Boston Terrier Lizzie is, once again, feeling not so good. In her short little life so far she has been sick quite a bit. Her symptoms are fever, vomiting and sometimes coughing. Our vet said he thinks she has ulcers....Which I do believe is correct. We give her Pepto Bismal for this and it does seem to help a bit, but what can I give her for the fever?? The vet bills are certainly adding up and so I was just wondering if there was a home remedy I could give her to help her feel better. Thank you so much for any advice.

So sorry you're having problems with your baby. I'm not sure what would be a safe OTC fever med to give, perhaps something for kids would be safe, but I would definitely check with the vet. In the meantime, you can give her a cool bath or wipe her down with a cool cloth, especially her underbelly, etc. where there is little to no coat. That would certainly help until you get a definitive answer; however, keep in mind that fever usually indicates an infection, so she may have an underlying infection that needs treatment. There are certain ulcers that respond to antibiotics, so that may be the route your vet should take. You might need to change vets; pepto bismol may ameliorate the symptoms for a bit, but there's still the fever/infection to worry about. Good luck.
