Harness Rash on Boston Terrier?

by Nugget
(Framingham Ma)

Has anyone had a boston terrier develop a rash from what looks like her harness? She has a red rash on chest and spots on inner limbs. It is red but doesnt seem to bother her, just us! Sometimes it's pink and some times its red hot! Should I change her harness, could she be allergic to nylon? What to do, the vet has no answers other than bugs in the grass...help

Harness rash

My two-year-old Boston, Tony, has very sensitive skin. He gets rashes and loses hair very easily. He's had this problem all his life... the things I've found that help are: 1) don't leave the harness on all the time. Take it off between walkings. 2) Find the softest fabric harness you can find... stay away from nylon, even. You can buy many kinds of harness on the internet. 3) For additional protection, consider getting a child's size t-shirt to put on your dog UNDER the harness. Depending on the size of your Boston, a size 2T might work. It will help soften the contact areas.

I've always been leery of putting my dog on medication just to get through a normal day. Benadryl is fine for an allergy attack, but I wouldn't want to have to give it every day. I know my dog has sensitive skin, so I just find other arrangements that work for him. (He's already on thyroid medication twice a day, so I hate to add even more medication to that.)

Harness

Hi, my boston puppy had similar issues. It can be allergy to nylon or the grass or something else. But its worth getting another mesh harness which is found at Petco or other places. They are softer and better than two strapes harness. Also wash the lead and collar with hot water if there is any allergen left from rolling in the grass.

I asked my vet and then I put some ointment like Neusporin or anti- rash like Benedryl cream or Cortisone cream. So ask first and then use them on the spots. There are some other topical for hot spots especially made for dogs. I would call the vet and see which one to use. Hope all goes away.

P.s. My puppy's case involved so much itching as well so the vet recommended liquid Benedryl along with those topicals.
