Glaucoma in BT less than 2 years old... HELP!

My 1y9m old Boston Terrier, Coop, has had a scar on his left eye since before I adopted him at 5 mo. He's already developed glaucoma in that eye and there is severe pressure pushing it out. The concern is that it could rupture and he could die. The best option is for eye removal, I know, but I don't make a lot of money right now and its been quoted to me at nearly $1000.

Supposedly it's a simple procedure and "most vets should do it". But i've called around and have had little luck in finding anything more affordable. I am scouring the internet in hopes that someone can steer me towards options for my dog whom I love way too much to give up. He is otherwise well cared for and loved.

We live in the Metro Boston area in MA, so if anyone could refer me to a rescue league who may be able to help with a reduced price surgery or a vet who could do so that would be amazing. You would think the local MSPCA would care about animals, but they simply say "If you can't afford the surgery, then you can't afford the dog, sign him over to us and we'll take care of it". This is not an option. I trust no one to love and care for my dog better than I do day to day.

Any help is MUCH appreciated.

GLAUCOMA
by: Charlotte

My Princess got CATARACTS at 3 yrs.old That was $5,000, which I just now paid off.
Just this week I was told she has GLAUCOMA in one eye. The surgery they want to do is $4,800. My Princess is my life I would do anything for her.The first thing you need to get medication in that eye to bring down the pressure, It is VERY painful.
I go to EYE CARE FOR ANIMALS in Tustin, Ca. You can look them up on line and see differant options. I myself have been trying this week to find help with no luck.
Let me know if you find out anything, I've cried my eyes out trying to figure out what to do. I wish you all the luck in the world !

poor little guy! he's so cute! My only advice would be maybe to contact Animal Advocates, in Dartmouth, Ma. If they can't help you, they may be able to steer you in the right direction. Also, andI know this may be a long shot, but there is a woman named Delores, she owns a natural food store for pets and people. It's called Down to Earth Natural foods (I think) It's on Kempton street in New Bedford, Ma. I'm not sure, but she's very very knowledgeable about animals, she may know another cheaper alternative to surgery. Maybe not, but it's worth a phone call. Hope that may help you. Good luck with Coop, he's a doll!!
