Our 8 month old Boston has had soft and frequent stools since we got him 4 months ago. It has been extremely frustrating and worrisome. He poops between 5 and 7 times each day and although they are mostly formed, they are extremely soft. We have taken him to the vet and the fecals come back ok. The vet put him on a 7 day antibiotic and on Hills i/d canned food and things improved until we started weening him back onto dry food (Premium Edge for puppies) He eats his food without any problems, but is not gaining any weight. Any suggestions on food alternatives. He is a happy puppy---no signs of being lethargic. Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Frequent soft stools in 8 month old Boston
They are sensitive to many brands of food. Ive found one so far in which my boston likes and agrees with her. Just because a food says its high quality it doesnt mean it is. talk to your veteranarian and they can recommend something for you. I use Nutro brand dog food however im not saying it will work for you. Most pet store chains will sell it and its a little more on the pricey side but almost anything you will get thats quality will be.

Metamucil by: Anonymous
Our Boston is older, but he seemed to be having soft stools as well. It was time for his annual physical, so we had them check for anything that might be causing the situation. Fortunately his tests came back normal. The vet suggested sprinkling some Metamucil on his food. We got the type that has no flavor and his stools got firm again. If you want to try that route, check with the vet first since your Boston is a puppy and they can help give you an idea of how much to administer. I know that adding canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling)also helps, but some dogs just don't take to it. Hope you found some help for your little Boston!

Fiber by: Anonymous
Make sure you are using a high quality dry dog food and at canned pumpkin or boiled sweet potato to their food. The high fiber will help keep their digestive system in good working order.
