For those working during the day

I work on a typical job from 9 to 6. I live by myself and I'm looking to raise a Boston Terrier within the next year.
What is your advice for those that live by themselves and work during the day, but at the same time would like to commit their time and energy to a dog, like the Boston Terrier?

I agree with Linda. I'm out of the house for about 10 hours a day and my boston terrier developed separation anxiety and is hyper-active. This breed craves companionship and you actually feel terrible having to leave them alone. I occasionally but my dog in doggie day care but she has recently become very aggressive and is now attacking other dogs.

My advice would be to try and find a friend or relative willing to come to your home during the day to let the puppy out around 1-2 p.m. if you can't get there. If you work 9-6, how much extra time are you away for the commute? Take that into consideration.

You may want to consider getting an adult already house-trained.

When you are home, you will need to make sure your dog gets at least a 20-30 minute brisk walk or some fenced-in play time that includes some running, fetching, etc. A walk in the morning before work would help to tire out the dog, who would then be content to sleep for most of the day. It's not an impossible situation, but Bostons for the most part are house-dogs,not yard-dogs. They crave their people. You may not be in the best situation right now for a dog, but if you really want one, make sure the dog is well loved and has lots of attention when you are home.
