Fearful Boston Terrier

Help! I don't know how to help my 4 yr old boston terrier. She has always been a little timid but her anxiety is increasing. Our cat died six months ago and her fearful behaviors increased ... i.e. panting, pacing, eyes bulging, running away from stimuli. She is afraid of fireworks, thunderstorms, and new animals. She is a very submissive dog. We just got a 3 lb new kitten and my dog is very afraid of her. The kitten wants to play but my dog tucks her tail, cries, and runs away. How can I help my dog adjust to our new family member?

Thundershirt

Our Boston is 9 and a huge baby. She will pant, shake like crazy during any rainstorm. I was stunned, we tried the ThunderShirt last night and not only did she not go crazy shaking.. It almost seem to put her in a relaxed state like a drug. I was amazed. It was only $40. Well worth it!

Did you get all 3 your females together? I'm debating adding a new pup to our 9 year old Boston but not sure if she will like that?

Anxiety/fearful
by: Patty, Newmarket, NH

I feel for you! When my BT past over the rainbow bridge my other dog started to have anxiety as well. My veterinarian said that there would be an adjustment time for her pack had changed! The best advice I can give you is to talk to your veterinarian. Corky is on antianxiety medication only when we have to leave her alone. It has worked well. It has not solved it completely, but it is much better. My veterinarian explained that sometimes you have to figure out the correct dosage. I have also use an over the counter holistic liquid like Rescue Remedy along and also without the pharmaceutical medication. It amazingly works well too. I have also found leaving stuffed kongs with treats in them when we leave her alone helps as well. Talk to your veterinarian. There's help on the way for you! Good luck! Remember, try not to get stressed yourself because your "baby" feels it too!

Boston Terrier Mate

Maybe you should try getting another Boston for a mate for her. We have 3 females and they get along great.
