Eye protection for blind boston

by Net
(Sydney)

Our recently adopted boston is blind following a cataract surgery. Despite her extraordinary cleverness and our vigilance she sometimes bumps into things and in the past month has had 3 eye ulcers....very painful for her and hard work to cure ( 13 sets of various drops a day!). There is talk of removing her eyes but we would like to try some doggie eye protection first. We have seen doggles and tried them on her once, but that flat little nose didnt seem to suit them. Does anyone have any experience with doggles on bostons or any other forms of eye protection? Many thanks!!

eye protection

We've had 2 blind Bostons over the years. I don't know of specific protection devices for them so we always had pillows on the floor around corners and sharp objects. We also bought some foam pipe insulation that comes slitted and wrapped it around chair & table legs that were hard. It doesn't make you house look like Better Homes & Gardens but it really saved a lot of bumps, bruises and eye damage not to mention peace of mind for us. I was more concerned with keep the head and eyes safe. We just found cheap little pillows at garage sales and such. Outdoor furniture pads are nice too because they are thinner yet do the trick.
We had to remove the eyes of our last blind Boston due to glaucoma. It was not our first choice but the surgery is not as hard on them as it is on us. It's hard to keep a spunky Boston down!

My 10yr old Boston Terrier just had her left eye removed with a complete cataract + corneal disease in the right....so she is completely blind. I worry that her other eye will be ulcerated because she too...keeps bumping into things. I tried doggles this weekend and she kept pawing them off. I don't know what else to do except to put the E-collar on but she hates that too. I worry that her other eye will have to be removed as well.
