Eye Problem for months - please help

My Boston Terrier is almost 8 years old and has never had any eye problems. Now for the past 3 monhts he has had problem after problem. He scratches at his eye and it gets irritated, red, and half closed so I take him to the vet. Then he goes on Antibiotics and pain drops - if the scratch is bad enough they put him on a blood syrum treatment as well.

The eye doesnt ever fully heal because once it starts getting better and the cone comes off he scratches it again. The vet has checked for ingrown hairs but found nothing. I already had the 3rd eyelid sugery on one of his eyes a few months ago and it looks like I may need to do that again on this eye because there is a red ulcer on his eye and it looks extremly irritated. Does this seem normal or is this a common problem? Again, I have had him for 7 years with no issues and now it is one thing after the next with his eye. All of this treatment is getting very costly.

Eye of a 12 yr old B.T. similar
by: Milo

Hi, My 12 yr. old Boston named Milo has had a simialar issue w/ his left eye for the last 6 months. I have given him saline eye drops and occasional Boric Acid drops as a cooloing relief only when the eye seems to drive him crazy. He had lost his vision to clouding of the lenses two years ago almost completely; then last year his right eye cleared up and he had good vision in that eye until this redness began, which also seems to cause intermittent swelling. My advice to you at this point, is: If he is in tremendous pain, then act. If it's something you and he can live with, let nature do it's thing. Milo gets around fine being mostly blind. Just ADJUST your lifestyle to accomodate his (leave CLEAR PATHWAYS along the floors, in every room he visits, etc.) and all will be good.
